You are very welcome here at
And like that *claps hands* another half term is done, this one significantly different to any we have ever encountered with social distancing, hand sanitising, staggered breaks and lunches and more bubbles than a West Ham United game.
During Autumn half term 1, I was working in a gorgeous school in Bolton. For the first three weeks I was in my comfort zone, year 3/4, teaching areas I have a lot of experience in such as The Stone Age and early column method mathematics. For the final fortnight, I was then lucky enough to gain more experience teaching in Year 1 - stories, continuous provision, phonics and colourful resources were the order of the day. I shall put some of the things I made on the KS1 page. In the next few weeks I shall be turning my attention to Year 2, as I take up a position in that year group at a school very close to my heart. In the meantime, stay safe and have a fabulous half-term break.

Well, against all odds we made it through the longest summer. We've adventured, we've created, we've learned in new and unexpected ways, but now the schools are back open and its time to skip back into the classroom (Oi! No skipping in the corridors!)
I wanted to let you know a little about how I envisage Greenhouse Learning to look as we move into Autumn term 2020-21 and beyond. Like most children, I too have returned to the classroom and as such I will not have the time on my hands to develop whole school resources anymore. I will primarily be focusing on the Lower Key Stage 2 age group, which in England is Year 3 and Year 4 (Year 2 children and Year 5 children may find some of these activities useful too). In the meantime, if I find resources that work for other year groups, I will of course upload them. In terms of my upload schedule, I will no longer be updating the site daily; this will be unmanageable at the moment, so it'll be a bit freer than that. The resources I will be creating from hereon-in will be pitched specifically at my class rather than for a wider audience. Hopefully you will still find them useful. So, what are my aims for this website going forward? Well, first I intend to overhaul the metadata that is stored on each post. In layman's speak, that means that the website will be easier to search through, and you should be able to find activities that match the subject or objective you are after. This will take time though, as I must put my job first. Consider this a bit of a passion project. My second hope, which is quite a way off, is to move into vlogging and/or podcasting to supplement the resources on the website and to build an audience. I have a strong background in media production, having won awards for radio presenting and gained employment on national and commercial radio stations. In short, I feel that I can deliver something really special in this area... but only when I have the means and the time to do so. And thirdly, on the subject of audience, I hope to build a community of educators, parents and students who will regularly interact with posts and resources, providing useful feedback and quality examples of learning that can be displayed in my gallery. Anyway, I have rambled on for long enough. Have a wonderful autumn term and happy learning! Mr Green Dear parents,
We are overwhelmed by the love and support you have given us since Lockdown began in the UK a month or so ago. The website has grown beyond our wildest dreams (same for Mrs Greenhouse Learning's website: The Magical Lair of The Craft Pixies) and it makes our hearts leap with joy. However... Due to how busy we are with our dayjobs at present, it isn't currently possible for us to create 45 new lessons per week (3 per subject, per day, per key stage!) as we were doing. It turns out that's a little too ambitious at the moment. So... We will do our best to upload as much as possible whenever we can manage it, keeping up the same quality of free resources and activities. In the meantime, why not head over to our links page where you will discover lots of other fantastic places to find learning opportunities. We really do hope you all understand! Very warmest wishes, Mr Green x Dear all,
Please find this week's creative learning, courtesy of Pixie Rae, over at The Magical Lair of The Craft Pixies. This week, we have begun to make a selection of safari animals out of toilet roll or kitchen roll tubes. So far, we have Elsie the Elephant and Linus the Lion. Next time, we will add Hercule the Hippo to the collection! Why not have a go, then create your own safari puppet show? - Greenhouse Learning x Parents and children, welcome back to Greenhouse Learning. We hope that you had a fantastic Easter break and are now ready to grow your brains once more!
Our maths learning for today is now live. Early Years children will be learning about the months of the year, KS1 children will be practising their 2s, 5s and 10s, and KS2 children will be answering tricky questions about the poem "As I was going to St Ives". Enjoy! Our Maths, English and Creative learning for Friday 3rd April is now live on the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 pages.
Of particular interest to KS2 children today, will be a rather fun addition and subtraction investigation. It is a full on real life scenario called "Mrs Green is having a party!" EYFS will be learning about triangles and KS1 will be learning to use a part-whole diagram. There's lots of descriptive English tasks to achieve and some fantastic creative activities too. Enjoy! Maths learning is now live... and it's about time!
EYFS - children will learn to sequence their days by playing a card game they have created. KS1 - children will help Mr Green to set his watch after traveling in his time machine. KS2 - children will be investigating the phrase "time is money"! Enjoy! PS: Yesterday's "Under the Sea" learning is still available too. My front page post seems to have been deleted by accident. Happy Tuesday!
Today in maths, EYFS will be taking their shape knowledge and combining it with their counting knowledge, by counting in squares, rectangles, circles and triangles. KS1 will be trying to crack the mystery spy code. And in KS2, Mr Green has replaced the numbers with letters. Can the children still answer the questions? In English, EYFS will be playing a speech and language game that will also test their memories, KS1 will be upleveling a paragraph to make it more interesting to read, and KS2 will be writing about their day in the present tense. EYFS met Toby the puppy earlier in the week. Today, they will meet Tosh the rabbit and learn to draw her by tracing. KS1 and KS2 on the other hand will be scribbling all over their page... don't worry though, that's part of the plan because today they are making scribble blocks, a colourful and effective art technique! Have a great morning! Good morning, Greenhouse Learners!
Your maths learning for today is up and ready for you to get started!
Mr Green Happy Friday everyone! Last night, Mr and Mrs Green popped outside to see the International Space Station flying past overhead. It was a stunning spectacle to behold and it got us thinking about whether there is life on other planets. Well, Greenhouse Learning can exclusively reveal that there IS life on other planets, specifically on the Planet Ten (in the Dec Galaxy), and as EYFS, KS1 and KS2 will learn, the aliens are really rather friendly! EYFS will be asking for the aliens to help them count one more and one less than a given number. Key Stage One will be pairing up the aliens because they're happiest when they add up to ten. And Key Stage Two will be town planning, because the aliens have landed on Earth! In English, EYFS will be using their phonics to read the sounds on the aliens' bodies. KS1 will be writing their own alien story, and KS2 will be describing the world from the perspective of an alien. Today's creative exercise comes courtesy of Pixie Rae, who will be teaching you to make these amazing Pom Pom Aliens! Enjoy getting creative and I'll see you on Monday for more learning fun! x
